Born in Catania on 11th November 1965. July 1989: Degree in Biological Sciences cum laude. 1989-1990: Apprenticeship at Genetics Laboratories of Biology Department, University of Catania. 1990-1994: Research fellowship sponsored by the Consorzio Catania Ricerche, and Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), in Bioinorganic laboratories at Chemistry Department of Catania University. 1995-1998: Ph. D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Catania. 1998-2000: Reseacher fellowship in Bioinorganic laboratories at Chemistry Department of Catania University. January 2001-CNR researcher in Catanias Institute section of IBB (Catania). Her experience has been enriched by some stages in european laboratories: Department of Radiation Genetics and Chemical Mutagenesis (Prof. A. T. Natarajan), University of Leiden, Nederland, Department of Biochemistry of Genoa University (Prof. A. De Flora). Centre de Biologie et Physiologie Vegetales, (Prof. A. M. Boudet) Universit Paul Sabatier Toulouse, France, Department of Biochemistry of Naples University (Prof. G. Sannia). Her main scientific interests are in the fields of biological chemistry and bioinorganic chemistry. In particular she has been involved in: biological activity of metal complexes (antitumor, antidiabetes, antiflammatory), studies of metalloenzymes in biotechnology (laccases), nitric oxide biological chemistry, misfolding diseases (prion diseases) and recently in role of metal ions in angiogenic processes and in studies on proteasome inhibitors.
