Antonio Magrì was born in Syracuse (Italy) in the February of 1970. He received his degree in Chemistry in November 1993, at the University of Catania. He qualified as a chemist in 1994 and in the same year, he joined as Ph-D student at the Department of Chemical Sciences at the University of Catania. He received his Ph-D in Chemistry (Analytical) in May 1998. During the third year of the Ph-D course, he spent a period (four months) at the Brigham Young University in Provo (USA) developing research in the separation science field under the direction of Prof. J. D. Lamb. He followed a Specialization School on Industrial Process Technologies at the University of Messina (Academic years 1993-94 and 1997-1998). In 1999 he joined as research fellowship at the Department of Chemical Sciences at the University of Catania. He attended specialist courses on the role of metal ion in biological systems and on the innovative combinatorial approaches and technologies. He was lecturer in Analytical Chemistry (A. A. 1998-99) and in Inorganic Chemistry (A. A. 2001-02) at the Agricultural Faculty of the University of Catania. Since 27/12/2001, he has been researcher at CNR (National Council of Research) at IBB (Bio-structures and Bio-images Institute) in Catania. His research interests focus on the synthesis, conformational analysis of calixarenes and their interactions with metal ions as well as, the synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of peptides. At the present, he is involved in the study of the role of metal-peptide interactions in amyloid diseases like type II diabetes mellitus. He is co-author of 25 publications in international journals
