Degree in Electronic Engineering with honours at University of Naples in 1983 and "Dottore di Ricerca" (PhD) in Bioengineering at the University of Bologna in 1989.
At the Electronics Department of the University of Naples he was (1983-1991) in charge of various projects in the fields biomedical signal processing (EEG and evoked potentials, EMG, ultrasound imaging and velocimetry) and clinical engineering.
Consultant (1984-1997) for various companies in the fields of technology transfer, technology assessment, environmental assessment, acquisition and processing of biomedical and environmental data, technical standards.
At Consorzio Napoli Ricerche (1991-1997) he worked as director assistant and coordinator of working groups on various research and training activities.
Researcher (1997-2001) and Senior Researcher (2001-2003) at CNR - Istituto di Tecnologie Biomediche. Research interests: i) instrumentation implementing new methods for cardiovascular signal processing (pressure, blood flow, ECG) including on line measurements during vascular and cardiovascular surgery; ii) test and assistance in setting up assisted circulation devices.
As Senior Researcher joined CNR - Istituto di Ingegneria Biomedica  in 2003 and CNR - Istituto di Biostrutture e Bioimmagini in 2015.
Founder and Chairman (2008-2009) of CNR spin off Timshel srl.
Adjunct Professor of "Measurement for Quality Control" at University of Naples "Federico II", Faculty of Engineering (2003-2012).
Adjunct Professor of "Quality Control and Health Managment" at University "Tor Vergata", Rome (since 2015).
He joined CERN (Geneve, CH) LHC project User (AT-MEI-MM and AB-ATB-LPE groups) (2008-2009)


Current research areas
Quality in Medicine and Health Care: measure of performance in health system and in  Intensive Care Units.
Electrical Properties of Biological Tissues: electrical impedance myography, bone ingrowth, drug delivery.
Cardiovascular Engineering: arterial pulse wave monitor from piezo and US sensors, monitor for mechanical assisted circulation and ventilation (including patient monitor), cardiovascular modeling.
Technology transfer and knowledge transfer projects (sensors, signal acquisition and processing, distributed - BAN, LAN, WAN - monitoring and control systems) for patient monitoring, management and maintenance of real estate and technical plants, transport.

Principal Investigator in a study to design, realize and clinical implementation of customized exoskeletons made with additive manufacturing techniques to treat pediatric orthopedic diseases (for Fondazione Santobono Pausilipon)

Project KONFIDO - Secure and Trusted Paradigm for Interoperable eHealth Services funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation under grant agreement no 727528. http://konfido-project.eu/konfido/

Delegate local Scientific Responsible in the framework of a cooperation agreement between project’s partner Fondazione Santobono Pausilipon, Naples and IBB.

Member of IASI CNR team into project INSPIRE – Innovative Services for Fragile People in Rome  founded by EU DG Employment and Social Inclusion grant n. VS/2015/0210

Curiosity driven project

Data analysis and modeling for quality control and improvement of health system (home care, cardiovascular surgery and emergency department) in cooperation with Campus Biomedico and LUISS Universities - Rome, ASL NA1, S.Camillo Forlanini Hospital.


Research Interests and professional activity areas
Quality in health care, acquisition and processing of biomedical data (Doppler ultrasound velocimetry, vascular echocardiography, pressure signals for cardiovascular applications, EMG, brain evoked potentials), assisted circulation and respiratory devices, cardiovascular system, technical standards and quality  clinical engineering, environmental data analysis and hygiene, technological and environmental assessment, technology transfer.
Evaluator and reviewer (more than 50 research, industrial and cooperative projects) for Italian Ministry of Research and Italian Ministry of Economic Development, Regional Agency for research and development of Lazio (FILAS spa).
Design and execution of electrical distribution, safety and  fire fighting system.  Main experience in hospitals, clinics, hospices, schools, sport, artistic heritages, industrial sites, military sites-US Navy.

Technical responsible the "Information Point for Technical Standards" in cooperation with national standard bodies UNI & CEI (about 1000 contacts/year).
Member of technical committee of FORCE Project "Evolutionary trends, in medium term, of the qualification and the professions in some activity areas of aeronautic centres in Naples, Toulouse, Greece, Spain" (contract I/92/1-2/1257/Q-FPC)
Co-operation in a project with University Simon Bolivar of Caracas (Venezuela) to assess the cost/benefit analysis of health services, with particular attention to lithotripsy services
Responsible of CNR-RSTL Project: Methods and devices for metallic prosthesis osseointegration diagnosis.
Two spin off companies: Timshel and Innovum Biomedical (scientific responsible in presentation and approval at Italian Ministry of Research -Dlgs. 297/99, art. 11- of MATSI Project: measurement and control of drug absorption in instrumental transdermal therapies using EIS
