Single photon emission computerized tomography analysis of ultrafiltration
By radiolabeling human albumin with 99mTc we have evaluated, by computerized tomography, the occurrence of the concentration polarization phenomenon during the dialytic ultrafiltration process. Results show that the protein buildup takes place progressively on the dialytic membrane from inlet to outlet of the hemofilter. This proteic cake may modify the effectiveness of the treatment, reducing the ultrafiltration flow rate and affecting the transport of solutes by several mechanisms.
