A scientific activity aimed at the functional characterization of different kind of molecules with biological activity, such as glycosidic derivative and nucleosides analogs, is carried out in our lab. Active compounds are deeply characterized by means of biochemical and cellular biology methodologies. The anti-proliferative effect is studied on several human cancer cell lines from different histological origin in comparison with healthy cells. This approach is important not only to analyze the selectivity of action of the molecules but also their not desirable toxic effect. In addition the mechanism of action underlying the biological activity can be studied by immunological techniques, qPCR or FACS analyses. These studies could lay the foundations for the development of new substances with biomedical applications to be used for different fields of biomedicine, for example in antiviral or in anticancer therapy.
