Description:
The discovery that the polypeptide chain has aremarkable and intrinsic propensity to form β-rich amyloid-like aggregates thatendowed with a remarkable stability is one of the most relevant breakthroughsof the last decades in protein/peptide chemistry. In recent years, thisproperty has been effectively exploited to design and develop new biomaterialsof biotechnological and biomedical interest. Using the expertise accumulated inthe structural characterization of amyloidogenic proteins [1-3], we are currentlyinvolved in the design and development of self-assembling systems that areendowed with innovative structural and spectroscopic properties ( Figure )[4-14].
