Study of the physio-pathological mechanisms of high social impact human diseases by preclinical imaging on murine models.
Development of methods to define personalized therapeutic clinical pathways in human diseases.
Expertise in High Frequency Ultrasound, Photoacoustic Imaging, microPET, microCT, DEXA, Laser Doppler Perfusion Imaging,
Optical Imaging, MRI on murine models of human disease, anesthesia, microsurgical procedures and animal care related to imaging.
Study of alternatives to animal testing.
Veterinarians are uniquely qualified to conduct biomedical research in the field of comparative medicine using animal models, which have been instrumental in understanding the pathogenesis and mechanism of human diseases.
In light of their specific skills, veterinarians perform In the field of preclinical research medical-legal activity to support correct application of current legislation that govern the ethical use of laboratory animals for experimental purposes; a critical appraisal and competent practice of laboratory animal care procedures; technological activities to apply a correct experimental methodology and design; research activities in different biomedical fields. In this way, veterinarians promote the 3Rs principles and the reduction of scientific bias related to unproper laboratory animal management.
