Dr. Caterina Vicidomini Ph.D. is a researcher in the field of the pharmaceutical sciences applied to the research and development of new lead compounds for both pharmacological therapy and for diagnostic purposes. Dr. Vicidomini graduated in Pharmacy at the University of Salerno in 2002 and subsequently performed research activity in the frame of her Ph.D. internship at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the same university. During this period, she gained experience in organic synthesis, chromatography purification and characterization of new compounds of pharmaceutical interest. In July 2008 she completed a Postgraduate Master in Clinical Pharmacy (summa cum laude) at University of Salerno. Since 2011 she is working as permanent researcher at Institute of Biostructure and Bioimaging of Italian National Council for Research (IBB-CNR) in the screening of organic substances of natural and synthetic origin against different biological targets (e.g., neoplastic pathologies, taupathies) also by means of computational chemistry. Dr. Vicidomini is also working in the field of neuroscience and is involved in studies concerning the molecular diagnostics related to neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and others. Among the other skills of Dr. Vicidomini, the ability of coordinating the activities of research teams aimed at developing biologically active compounds is worth of mention together with the capability of working in highly multidisciplinary environments involving organic chemists, neurologists, radiologists, collaborating with scientists having the most diverse backgrounds in order to set up and arrange strategies for the implementation of multidisciplinary projects.

-Master degree in Pharmacy (July 25, 2002); University of Salerno, final grade of 110/110 cum laude;  experimental thesis in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Toxicology entitled 'Synthesis and biological activity of new analogs of ellipticine as potential antitumor agents.'

-PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (March 29, 2006), Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences - University of Salerno; thesis in Pharmaceutical Chemistry entitled 'Design and synthesis of small-molecule modulators of histone acetyltransferase (HATs) activity.'

-Master in Clinical Pharmacy (July 25, 2008), University of Salerno (50/50 cum laude). Thesis in Pharmaceutical Chemistry: Synthesis, biological evaluation, and binding mode of "small molecule" inhibitors of histone methyltransferases (PRMT).

Professional and Research Experience:

-November 2002 - March 2006: Scholarship at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry laboratory, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Salerno, Italy.

August 2005 - September 2005: Internship at the Welsh School of Pharmacy, Cardiff University, Wales, UK.

June 2006 - February 2007: One-year scholarship at the Department of Biomorphological and Functional Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Naples "Federico II" (Italy) as part of the project: "Advanced training in the field of advanced biology and its applications: creation of professional profiles in the areas of molecular diagnostics and pharmaceuticals" (call no. CRDC DFM/01/2006).

March 2007 - May 2007: Internship at the Institute of Protein Biochemistry (IBP), National Research Council CNR, Italy

June 2007 - October 2011: Research Fellowship (annual renewed for the following 3 years for a total of 4 years) at the Institute of Biostructures and Bioimages of CNR as part of the research project "Non-invasive imaging for advanced morpho-functional diagnostics" (call no. IBB/001/BIOIMM/2007), National Research Council CNR, Italy.

November 2011 to present: Researcher (Level III) with indefinite-term contract at the Institute of Biostructures and Bioimages (IBB) of the National Research Council (CNR). Workplace: via T. De Amiciis, Naples, Italy.
