Dr. Vincenzo Alterio was born in Naples on 16/06/1975. He graduated in Chemistry at the University of Naples “Federico II” in 2001 and received his Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences from the same University in 2004. In 2006 he has been visiting scientist at the Biochemistry Institute of the University of Luebeck (Germany). Since 2009, he is researcher at the Institute of Biostructures and Bioimaging.
His main research activity is focused on the study of structure/function relationships in biological systems having medical and/or biotechnological interest. These studies are carried out by Dr. Alterio by means of several experimental methodologies, including X-ray crystallography, absorption and emission spectroscopy and molecular biology. In particular, Dr. Alterio has a high experience in the most powerful structural resolution techniques in the field of X-ray crystallography, for the determination of protein structures. In this field Dr. Alterio expertise covers all stages of a structural determination: crystallization, data collection by both conventional and synchrotron sources, structure resolution by means of different phasing methodologies, including molecular replacement, MAD and SAD, model refinement.
Dr. Alterio is author of scientific publications on international journals among which PNAS, JACS, Chem. Rev.
Currently He is member of the editorial board of various international journals.
